ZERO HEDGE
ECONOMICS

There are few better illustrations of the post-election trade, thus far, than the dichotomy between industrial metals and precious metals. However, between Chinese exchanges cracking down on speculation in base metals and the testing of a crucial trendline, perhaps this run is over.

The collapse of the US Treasury market in the last two days has sent the entire curve (from 2Y to 30Y) higher in yield on the year....

Worst initial jobless claims data in 5 months... no problem. After spending the night in the red, following the closing dump yesterday, futures are panic-bid again into the US open, erasing the losses...

"Post election, investors believe the world has changed. Whether or not Trump’s pro-growth agenda is enacted or succeeds, investors buy into it: the consensus of investors we surveyed yesterday put the S&P at the end of next year at 2425; a similar survey we conducted on Nov 3 put the S&P at 2087."

It appears the growthiness of the new regime is not so friendly to FANG stocks and big tech as the Nasdaq just gave up all its gains post-election.While tech is the biggest loser in stock land, it's the bloodbath in bonds that is most worrisome as 30Y yields spike another 10bps today..

In the two weeks since Donald Trump was elected, initial jobless claims have soared by over 35,000 (or over 15%) to 5-month highs. This is the biggest two-week rise since December 2014 and is entirely against the exuberant narrative being spun by US equity markets. One can't help but wonder what the sudden 'odd' collapse to 43 yeasr lows right into the election was all about...

In the end, UTC agreed to retain approximately 800 manufacturing jobs at the Indiana plant that had been slated to move to Mexico, as well as another 300 engineering and headquarters jobs. In return, the company will get roughly $700,000 a year for a period of years in state tax incentives.

Extending October's bounce, Markit's US Manufacturing PMI for November jumped to its highest since March 2015 with "signs of buoyant business conditions in the US manufacturing sector." ISM Manufacturing also rose to its highest since Feb 2015 and while overall orders rose, we note that the USD strength may be evident as export orders dropped and employment slowed.

Si cae la china .. cae la cochina

Following the worst month for risk-parity funds since 2015, we suspect month-end redemptions are driving both stocks and bonds (4x levered on average) lower out of the gate in November. Extending yesterday's losses, US Treasury yields are explding higher once again (long-end underperforming) following China's bond market's biggest yield spike in years overnight.

Less than two months after Ray Dalio warned about a potential wipe out in the bond market, he has been proven right: the November surge in global yields has resulted in the worst monthly loss in the Bloomberg Barclays Global Aggregate Total Return Index, which lost 4% in November, a record drop, and equivalent to $.17 trillion in losses. The index’s market value fell $2.8 trillion over past two months.

3 Things: Exuberance, Small Caps, & 6% Realities  "...there is a long way to go between President-elect taking office, drafting bills and getting them passed. In the meantime, there are many concerns, from a technical perspective, that must be recognized within the current market environment."

'Winter is coming' in North Dakota but as over 2000 veterans arrive to provide a human shield for the 'water protestors', president-elect Donald Trump said for the first time that he supports completion of the pipeline project near a North Dakota Indian reservation. Reassuringly his team confirmed that his support "has nothing to do with his personal investments" in Energy Transfer Partners - the company building the pipeline

President Trump will undoubtedly do his best to help the industry, but recent events have shown that may be harder than it appears.

We hope to unite our forces with the United States in the fight against the real threat, not the fictional one – international terrorism,” he said. The president also emphasized the need “to strengthen non-proliferation regimes,” noting that “attempts to upset the strategic balance are extremely dangerous and could lead to a global catastrophe.”

The relentless dollar rally continues to slam the Turkish lira, which has been printing fresh all time lows on a daily basis, and today has been no exception, tumbling over 1.8%, and pushing the USDTRY to an all time high above 3.50.
