John Whitehead is a wishful thinking .. revolution did happens in
America in both ways: top down & bottom up. When both the top & bottom
movements coincide and combine each other in certain space-time, we have the
greatest rev in History. When they do
not combine each other, we still have big rev form the top and from the bottom.
The focus of John Whitehead is the
failure of bottom up Rev. In fact these are only a prelude of a great Revolution in process.
Without the Mov of M. Lutter King (example of big revolution)
we cannot explain the arrival of a black President to power. This is certainly a
fiasco today, but in history doesn’t
matter if one leader abandon his social base. The fact is that the black social Mov is back
and are been joined now by other race-minorities and oppressed people. Again
this social Mov is getting open expression of affection from member of top layers of the Nation .. this also preludes
a ticking bomb ready to explode in the near future.
For a Rev to happens doesn’t matter how great is the
military power from the top, what matter is in whose hands these arm-power is
firing to. Now is the police and soon will be the rich, as happens in all Rev.
The rest of the military will join this event, as soon they start killing their
top bosses, as also happens in all revolutions.
In our country the last top big Revolution from the top-down
happens in the mid of 1980 with the Washington Consensus. It was during the
Reagan era that policies top-down shaken our Nation and the whole world later
on. The second rightist revolution (second stage of the previous one) was done
after the falling down of the USSR, and more exactly when a neocon think-tank designed
the PNAC : the Project from New American Century implemented by bush in
2001-2003. What we have today with Obama is the 3rd stage or collapse
of PNAC when Hillary Clinton & Victoria Nulan took power. The previous two stages have all the ingredients
of a top-down revolution (Chalmers
Johnson, Charles Tilly, and Samuel P. Huntington) since its inside-jobs
(including sept 11) lead to the imperial expansion of the US world wide. The 3rd
stage of PNAC also expand the military power of the US but in a messy way (in
alliance with jihadist financed & armed since the Libya failure).
The worse part of the neocon-top-down REV is the economic purpose
set by their main actor: the oil business financiers. Oil energy extraction is
nowadays obsolete: few corp with big power in the US feed by the nasty owners
of the Saudi crown. Their power and their wars are collapsing because they can’t
compete with the power of Russia and China as major importer. To impose the old
energy resource they have to destroy RU & China, as intended by Clinton
& Trump. This will lead to WW3, and human disaster world wide. Most analyst
agree that WW3 will produce a mutual destruction. The US rely in assumed
advantage of a 1st nuke strike with not chances for reply (total destruction
of RU-China) and they also have set their satellites for automatic immediate
response to 1st strike. There is not rationality in such adventure, that make it obsolete.
The time bomb of a new tech rev (a new paradigm in Thomas Kuhn’ terms) is at portas now: The combination of solar energy with wind
power & other sources of energy is under exploration. This tech Rev can put
down the economic and political power that give base to the old source of
energy. In fact, the actors and beneficiaries
of the oil revolutions are in severe internal crisis now. Their internal
conflict with the nation & other sector of the 1% are condemning them to be
placed aside.
New economic & political forces at the top and the
bottom are emerging now faster than ever. When these forces join together then
we will have a new great Revolution .. and our soldiers will join them as start
to happens. This is the dynamic of revolutions well studied by Theda Skcopol (though
her emphasis was on the actions from the oppressed).
Now we should use a systems-theory approach to capture the
forest and the particular trees of these Rev in the current neoliberal jungle.
Unfortunately the greatest tinker of systems approach die at the end of the
past century. I’m talking about the
German Niklas Luhmann, the one who went
back to Kant & Hegel to free as from the troubles of Parsons’ functionalist
swamp. Luhmann school remains here in the US and worldwide. With his
instruments we can see Revolution in a holistic way (as open system
interconnected to other sytems) & in particular way (as close system
limited in terms of time & space) as von Bertalanffy (the creator of systems
theory) wanted. Yesterday ’ frame continue be similar to the current one, but
the focus now is on Actions: in the conversion of inputs into outputs
(feedbacks & feed forward).
In this view it doesn’t matter how much money you put in a
project, that matter is people’ principles that guide actions to convert
resources into outputs. An army can train many people to use arms (the “how to”
to make wars) you can learn it in the kitchen .. but wars to serve whom? ..to the nation? ..
then soldiers can use it to this purpose too, if they get a clear vision on who
is the nation to be served.. and this theory & knowledge do not come from
the army’ generals.. You have to observe both, the general system and the
particulars of every system (the whole and the part). You do not learn this in the
kitchen .. you learn that from history and the ABC of sociology and Politics,
as these experiences are thought.
REVOLUTION WON’T BE DEFEATED NEVER EVER!
