"...there’s no hard data that you could point to that signals recession... but the flattening yield curve could become a concern for US economic growth..."

Jeff Gundlach warned that the flattening yield curve could become a concern for US economic growth when two and three-year notes yield about the same, and the price per barrel of WTI crude oil plunges into the $30s, he said during a phone call with a Reuters reporter.

The last time the spread between two- and three-year yields held below 10 basis points was around the time former Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke announced the beginning of Operation Twist and then QE3 in late 2012.

Known on Wall Street as the Bond King, Gundlach also said he is becoming more positive on international equities over U.S. stock markets because the Fed is raising rates with "quantitative tightening on top of it with its plans to shrink its balance sheet," according to Reuters.

"Lower CPI (Consumer Price Index) in the next couple of months will be a cold bucket of water for the Fed tightening dreams," Gundlach said. "Commodities are super weak, with the dollar down year-to-date, no less."

"It's a trade that's made a lot of money and its very, very crowded, which suggests to me the days of low volatility are numbered," he said. We "probably won't see it continue through year end."

The Treasury yield curve flattened on Wednesday, with 30-year yields down two basis points, and two-year yields up one point. WTI, meanwhile, tumbled to $42 a barrel.

The nasty business of US-NATO-Global-wars uncovered .. pro RU view

If Russia Wasn't Armed With Nukes, 'We Would Be Facing Another War' (of annexation)  https://sputniknews.com/europe/201706211054850460-russia-prevent-nuclear-war/

Western sanctions against Russia are part of a long-term policy aimed at destabilizing the country, former East German spy chief Werner Grossman told Sputnik Deutschland.
Western countries have been provoking Russia since the end of the Soviet Union, and it is only Russia's possession of nuclear weapons that has stopped war from breaking out, former East German spy chief Werner Grossman told Sputnik Deutschland on Tuesday.

"The victory of the Soviet Union, the Red Army, over fascist Germany created a situation in which it wasn't possible to start pursuing interests in the East, especially not militarily. The later development, the inclusion of the Western parts of Germany and later the Federal Republic of Germany into the Western alliance, the admission into NATO, this of course immediately changed the situation again."

"The interests have not changed. They are pointed east. If Russia, as the successor to the Soviet Union, were not armed with nuclear weapons, there would probably have been another war, or we would be facing one."

When asked if the US would be dominant in a "hot war," Putin replied that "I don't think anyone would survive such a conflict."
Grossman said he agrees with such an assessment.

"A war today would really be the destruction of mankind, because nuclear weapons would be deployed, unrestricted and probably uncontrolled by many sides. During the Cold War between East and West, we thought that a new war must be prevented because it would be the end of mankind."

Current Western politics toward Russia have echoes of the past. In particular, Grossman is reminded of the situation at the beginning of the First World War, more than a century ago, when Germany and the other Central Powers sought to provoke Russia into war.

"It is still the same today.  It is always on the agenda to attempt to initiate certain things that get a reaction from the other side," Grossman said.

On Tuesday, the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)  expanded its sanctions against Russia, which were first imposed in March 2014 after Crimea decided to re-join Russia in the aftermath of the Euromaidan coup d'etat.

The US introduced sanctions against some 40 individuals and entities over their alleged involvement in the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine. They include several top Crimean officials, Russian Special Presidential Representative for Cooperation with Organizations Representing Russians Living Abroad Alexander Babakov, PMC Wagner (a private military company), three banks operating in the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics and six banks operating in Crimea.

On Wednesday, EU officials told Sputnik that while some countries are against the automatic renewal of the EU's anti-Russian sanctions, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel could not recommend the extension of anti-Russia sanctions at an EU summit this week.

"There has to be a clear recommendation from the German chancellor and President of France, because they are [in] the Normandy format and Minsk agreements were born within the framework of te Normandy format. I expect a recommendation from both Merkel and Macron to roll over the sanctions," the official said Wednesday.

The two leaders' recommendation would prompt European Council President Donald Tusk to inform other EU leaders to "kick-start the written procedure."
"So, actually it will be a political decision, and then we need to have a legal process, a technical one," the official said.

"The interests have not changed. They are pointed east. If Russia, as the successor to the Soviet Union, were not armed with nuclear weapons, there would probably have been another war, or we would be facing one."

CIA THREATENED TERROR SHRINKS: NUKE ATTACK WOULD BE YOUR FAULT  https://sputniknews.com/military/201706221054863374-cia-terror-nuke-attack-blame/

[[  Don’t matter whose fault.. FACT 1 is that WW3 is feed by MIC that manufacture WMD n wars in the periphery aimed at regime change. Fact 2: Neoliberal crisis require annexation/destruct  of RU-China. FACT 3: We all need to stop WW3  ]]

“They kept telling me every day a nuclear bomb was going to be exploded in the United States and that because I had told them to stop, I had lost my nerve and it was going to be my fault if I didn’t continue," John Bruce Jessen, a former CIA contractor, said in a deposition published by the New York Times on Wednesday.

"There was going to be another attack in America and the blood of dead civilians are going to be on your hands,” James Mitchell recalled of his dealings with the CIA while working as a contractor to design the agency’s torture techniques, including waterboarding.

“Jim and I didn’t want to continue what we we’re doing,” Jessen said in video obtained by the New York Times, but government agents pressured them to keep on because they were needed for national security — the only real domain the CIA has jurisdiction to roam.
“I think the word that was actually used is that you guys are pussies,” Mitchell said.

The infamous Torture Report led to former President Barack Obama terminating the torture practices, reverting to the Army Field Manual for dealing with captured individuals instead.

“I deliberated with great, soulful torment about this, and obviously I concluded that it could be done safely or I wouldn’t have done it,” Mitchell said in a moment of vulnerability, according to the Times.

In the Torture Report, the Senate implicated Jessen and Mitchell directly: “CIA personnel, aided by two outside contractors, decided to initiate a program of indefinite secret detention and the use of brutal interrogation techniques in violation of US law, treaty obligations, and our values.”

White House Reportedly Seeks to Weaken Senate Bill on Russia Sanctions   https://sputniknews.com/us/201706221054865666-white-house-seeks-weken-bill-russia-sanctions/

The White House is seemingly working with US House Republicans to water down a Senate bill that aims to toughen sanctions on Russia, US media claimed Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The New York Times reported that Rep. Kevin Brady filed a procedural objection earlier this week that stopped the motion in its way through Congress and could cause it to be redrafted.

According to the outlet, the administration of the US president wanted to preclude the parliament from being able to block Donald Trump's attempts to lift or waive these sanctions.

The Senate last week voted by a landslide in favor of new sanctions against Russia. No action has been taken on legislation since it was passed to the House of Representatives last Friday.

Russian officials have repeatedly denied charges of interfering in the US election, saying the allegations are absurd and represent an attempt to divert public attention from actual instances of election fraud and corruption as well as other pressing domestic issues.
