This Is Why The US Just Lost Its Superpower Status According To Larry Summers. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 04/06/2015. "This past month may be remembered as the moment the United States lost its role as the underwriter of the global economic system... With US commitments unhonoured and US-backed policies blocking the kinds of finance other countries want to provide or receive through the existing institutions, the way was clear for China to establish the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank," the former Treasury Secretary says, in a sharp rebuke of US foreign policy.

Mapping The World's Atomic Inventory. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 04/06/2015. "Amid the wave of bellicose rhetoric that has swelled in Moscow since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, officials as high up as President Vladimir Putin have been making open nuclear threats, a public saber-rattling with weapons of mass destruction largely unseen even in the days of the Cold War."

We've Never Seen This Before In The Gold Market. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 04/06/2015. It might prove to be a one-off. But one group in the gold industry this week forged ahead with a unique strategy - which might just change the market. The group is India’s largest jewellery-maker, Rajesh Exports. Which said that it is taking an unusual step in securing gold supply for its operations. Buying gold mines.

Beppe Grillo Disarms The 7 Unfounded Fears Of A Euro Exit. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 04/06/2015. Having previously warned that "the eurozone chess game is entering its final stage," and exclaimed that "we are not at war with Russia or ISIS, we are at war with the Troika," Italy's erstwhile populist leader, Italy's Five Star Movement's Beppe Grillo unveils his Plan B by destroying seven unfounded myths with regard an exit from the euro...

John Hussman Explains Why QE Has Done Nothing To Help You. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 04/06/2015. Money doesn’t go “into” the stock market – it goes through it from a buyer to a seller. The resulting price changes are purely changes in the relative value that people place on these pieces of paper, and amount to changes the amount of “paper wealth” in the economy. These changes should emphatically be distinguished from the real wealth of the economy, and the underlying stream of cash flows that will be generated over time.

Mission Accomplished? ISIS Leaders Are All Ex-Saddam Hussein Army Officers. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 04/06/2015 . Almost all the top leaders in the Islamic State are former officers in the Iraqi army. As WaPo reports, the current leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, reshaped the original al-Qaeda affiliate by recruiting from Saddam Hussein’s disbanded army...

America's Poor Spend 60% Of Their Income On Food & Housing Proving CPI Is Meaningless. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 04/06/2015. "For many Americans, the rise in food and housing prices is a tough squeeze. That’s because even in an era with low overall inflation low-income Americans spend a disproportionate share of their money on food and housing," WSJ notes, proving that once again, poor people aren't allocating their funds correctly.

How To Alleviate The Alleged "Worker Shortage" - Stop Subsidizing Non-Work. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 04/06/2015. The great conundrum of the U.S. economy today is that we have record numbers of working age people out of the labor ‎force at the same time we have businesses desperately trying to find workers. So why aren’t workers filling these available jobs - or getting the skills necessary to fill them. We would posit five impediments to putting more Americans back to work - First, government discourages work...

Valuing (Greek) Banks: A Sum-Of-The-Parts Approach. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 04/06/2015. Traditional banks were built to gather deposits. Their design and infrastructure is geared towards that; they are maladapted to today’s interest rate environment. P2P platforms and other non-bank lenders are eating their lunch. Absent some radical rethinking of their operations model, they are about to go the way of the dodo. Of course, markets are not efficient; it will take time for competitors to move in. Traditional banks, however, have few weapons to fend them off: their brands (much less valuable for loan-origination than for deposit-gather purposes) and their (hugely expensive) legacy infrastructure. It took almost a century for the dodo bird to become extinct.

Greece Calculates Germany Owes It A Third Of Its GDP In WWII Reparations. With almost 70% of Europeans already believing that Greece is a drag on the EU economy, this morning's statement by Greek Alternate Finance Minister Dimitris Mardas - coming just a week after the war-raparations committee was set-up, telling lawmakers in Parliament that he has calculated that Germany owes Greece EUR 278.7 billion in World War II reparations, will surely deepen the rift (at almost 40% of Germany's EUR 735 billion GDP) whether right or wrong.

Spin-O-Nomics In A World Of Unraveling Globalism. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 04/06/2015. The USA set the tone for 21st century magical finance, in which “wealth” was “created” by digital accounting fraud. The effects at home are visible on our landscape of suburban hyperwaste and decrepitating older towns and cities.

Warren Buffett, Slumlord – Predatory Loans, Kickbacks & Preying On The Poor. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 04/06/2015. In so many ways, Warren Buffett and modern America are the same thing. An idea packaged and marketed so brilliantly, most of humanity unquestionably believes the myth.  However, when you look beneath the surface, it becomes increasingly clear that neither of them actually come close to what’s printed on the package.

March Consumer Spending Hits Three-Year Low For Average Americans. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 04/06/2015. With more than three quarters of US workers trapped in what we will call “wage growth hell,” and whose only chance at seeing a pay hike appears to rest on holding out for a promotion that’s probably not forthcoming, it doesn’t exactly come as a surprise that self-reported consumer spending hit a three-year low for March.

Guaranteed Financial Security Is A Fantasy. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 04/06/2015. Guarantees based on extracting higher taxes, borrowing trillions of dollars and creating trillions more out of thin air only guarantee eventual systemic implosion.

Greek Minister Slams Troika's "Unbelievable Prejudice" As EU Proclaims Tsipras' Government "Cannot Survive". Submitted by Tyler Durden on 04/06/2015. The rhetoric, threats, and promises continue to increase as Greece, its international creditors (i.e. Troika), and its potential pivot partners from Russia to China to Iran all vie for attention. With EU officials proclaiming "[the Greek] government cannot survive," suggesting Tsipras divorce himself from the extreme left of his party; and with 68% of Europeans polled believing Greece is a drag on the EU economy, Greece's last best hope perhaps remains with a pivot to another Troika (Russia, China, and Iran) as energy minister Panagiotis Lafazanis denounced Greece’s international creditors for treating the country with "unbelievable prejudice and as a colony." This all on the day when FinMin Varoufakis 'promises' Christine Lagarde that Greece will repay its IMF loan on April 9th (somehow?).
