America's Infrastructure Is A Shambles-- And It Will Get Much Worse As Long As Conservatives Worship The Concept Of Low Taxes For The Ultra-Wealthy

ZERO HEDGE
ECONOMICS

Following flash PMI's drop, another early August indicator has collapsed as Richmond Fed's manufacturing survey plunges to -11 (lowest since Jan 2013) missing expectations of +6. The plunge from July's +10 to August's -11 is the largest on record - back to 1993.

Following the eurozone's disappointing drift lower in Manufacturing PMI (and weakness in German Services), August's US preliminary manufacturing PMI printed a disasppointing 52.1 (against expectations of 52.6). Weakness in Employment (lowest in 4 months) and New Orders underpin the drop from 52.9 to 52.1 as the 2 month hope-fueled bounce has faded...

In Real Estate ..Bubbles and uncertainty.. is all we have

Given central banks are all in and have no credible ideas (or credibility period), a NIRP driven speculative new housing bubble (for a population that is barely growing...hello China?) seems most likely If you haven't already, get busy front running the next moral hazard moonshot and then stay tuned.  Because as you read this, central bankers are already devising their next (even more destructive) "plan".

While the accuracy of the new home sales data is notorious volatile, with regular revisions wiping out both up and down-side outlier prints, moments ago the Census reported that in July, the US saw a whopping 654K new home sales, up 12.4%, from the prior month and higher by 31% from a year ago, smashing expectations of a 580K print, and a -2% decline from last month's pre-revision print of 592K (since revised lower to 582K).

STATES close to  BANKRUPTCY: case ILLINOIS. Who will suffer its impact?

Action this week by Illinois' biggest public pension fund to lower its expected rate of return, could "cripple" the state's already fragile finances, Governor Rauner has warned. "If the (TRS) board were to approve a lower assumed rate of return taxpayers will be automatically and immediately on the hook for potentially hundreds of millions of dollars in higher taxes or reduced services... the unforeseen and unknown automatic cost increases would have a devastating impact."

Remember the shale gale and Saudi America? The scale of those outlandish delusions has now dwindled to plays in a few counties in West Texas and southeastern New Mexico. Saudi Permian. It’s a race to the bottom as investors double down on the tight oil companies that can still tell a growth story.

Amid expectations that The Kingdom will sell bonds as early as next month, investors are panic-buying protection against default on Saudi Arabia. The last few weeks have seen a surge in CDS notional outstanding to its highest on record even as Saudi risk has stabilized after quadrupling in the last year.

"the most important tell on sentiment will be the U.S. Treasury auctions. Especially as they involve the two-year and belly. Yesterday morphed from “uh, oh they’re hawkish” to “I knew I should’ve bought the damn dip.” Buy every dip when facing the possibility of a third big NFP in a row? Sure, if you believe in the status quo"

POLITICS

George Orwell said, “In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” Thanks to WikiLeaks, we know that powerful institutions have been abusing their power and lying to the public. WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is a hero. Like Edward Snowden, Chelsea Manning, and other whistleblowers facing government persecution, Assange has sacrificed his personal comfort and safety to bring us the truth.

Candidate to psychiatric  room or jail .. but to our Presidency.. only in America

Hillary Clinton is 68 years old. She's been diagnosed with cerebral venous thrombosis; head trauma, brain infection, autoimmune diseases and inborn clotting abnormalities are all predisposing factors, per the Washington Post. She's currently taking blood thinners. Four years ago, Clinton fainted, hit her head and suffered a concussion. But lately many in the media have become outraged that Clinton's health is being broached at all.

Lack of fairness & consistency in blaming the police for schools’ mess.

If you want a nation of criminals, treat the citizenry like criminals. If you want young people who grow up seeing themselves as prisoners, run the schools like prisons. But if you want to raise up a generation who will actually operate with justice, fairness, accountability and equality towards each other and their government, then run the schools like freedom forums. Remove the metal detectors and surveillance cameras, re-assign the cops elsewhere, and start treating our nation’s young people like citizens of a republic and not inmates in a police state.

ANOTHER STUPID VIEW ON SCHOOLS: the effective administrator vs. ineffective teacher.  Who are they?  Fact 1: Shared decision-making is the most effective way of administrating schools.  Fact 2: During the recession of 1929-36 the schools that didn’t close were run by teachers.. not by authoritarian Adm

In the State of California 98% of teachers receive tenure after just 18 months on the job.  Once tenure is received it is virtually impossible for administrators to dismiss a teacher for being even "grossly ineffective."  [?? ] The California Supreme Court's decision not to review a lawsuit that would have addressed these issues is a loss for California's students.
….
[ If best teachers in town are transferred to a POOR neighborhood (with parents having 2 jobs nor human capital background  to help kids with their homework) the whole school will collapse, starting with “efficient Administrators”.. these are in fact the 5th leg of a cat in a school …   not needed  and/or .. less needed. ]

NOT ENOUGH GLUE  IN OUR UNION

This means that as of a month ago, two thirds of all regional Feds were urging Yellen to hike the discount rate; they were the following: Boston, Cleveland, Dallas, Kansas City, Philadelphia, Richmond, San Francisco and St. Louis. Those who voted to keep discount rate at 1% cited argument that outlook and below-target inflation supported keeping current accommodation in place; banks were Atlanta, Chicago, Minneapolis, and especially the New York. Clearly they dominated the discussion.

Chovinistic nationalism  and plundering  wars to benefit the rich are the worse invention  of Polit

If The British needed any more confirmation of their decision to leave The EU, Jean-Claude Juncker, president of the European Commission, just gave them a big one. The often incoherent "when it's important, you have to lie" politician spewed more United States of Europe tripe this morning when he called for European nations to drop border controls, claiming that borders were "the worst invention ever." Britain's new PM, Theresa May, was not amused...

Why the life of those who profit from wars will matter? .. Con las armas que matas te mataran, dijo un proverbio bíblico y la historia lo ratifico. ]

WASHINGTON BLOG

By Chris Hedges

On Contact,” Chris Hedges sits down with Rob Urie, author of Zen Economics, to discuss “the capitalist labyrinth.”

Urie explains that humans are conditioned to feel that capitalism is a “natural” state of being. It’s “the integration of psychology with corporate desire,” he explains. .. Urie and Hedges then discuss the “radical alienation” produced by capitalism, particularly how the system is responsible for nuclear weapons, climate change and even imperialism. “Alienation is the bedrock of consumer culture,” Hedges notes.

Capitalism, they agree, has a “self-destructive” quality that “leads to the inability to rectify the excesses.” In addition, they explore the idea that science is not objective. “Science has been harnessed to capitalism in a very destructive way,” Hedges says.

Corporate forces, long before the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, carried out a coup d’état in slow motion. The coup is over. We lost. The ruling is one more judicial effort to streamline mechanisms for corporate control. It exposes the myth of a functioning democracy and the triumph of corporate power. But it does not significantly alter the political landscape. The corporate state is firmly cemented in place.

The fiction of democracy remains useful, not only for corporations, but for our bankrupt liberal class. If the fiction is seriously challenged, liberals will be forced to consider actual resistance, which will be neither pleasant nor easy. As long as a democratic facade exists, liberals can engage in an empty moral posturing that requires little sacrifice or commitment. They can be the self-appointed scolds of the Democratic Party, acting as if they are part of the debate and feel vindicated by their cries of protest.

Much of the outrage expressed about the court’s ruling is the outrage of those who prefer this choreographed charade. As long as the charade is played, they do not have to consider how to combat what the political philosopher Sheldon Wolin calls our system of “inverted totalitarianism.”
