Corporate America has spoken again... and it does not fit with Hillbama's rosy picture of America's "recovery"...

The truth is the unemployment rate is a political number, not an economic one. If we want an accurate snapshot of employment, earned income and the state of small business, we have hard data that is already collected quarterly. Common sense suggests we will get more value from hard data than from politicized guesswork.

Here only brief extract:
A low unemployment rate tells us essentially nothing about labor, wages, employment or the real-world economy. What is meaningful is how much earned and unearned income is flowing to the various income brackets, and how many people have incomes that enable an independent household.

From this data, we know that about 123 million tax returns (individuals, married filing jointly, etc.) reported earned wages and salaries in 2014. 35.5 million returns reported earnings of less than $20,000. (Other data fields include the number of returns by type.)

As for calculating the size of the nation's work force: we can use U.S. Census Bureau estimates of the population ages 16-70 (now that more people are working past the age of 65), then deduct the disabled and those in institutions. The remaining number is the work force. There is no value in guessing who is "discouraged" and who isn't.

In what is normally the pre-open ramp time, US equity markets just jolted lower into the red as they finally stopped ignoring the plunge in crude prices this morning...
----
----

The brief bounce from last night's API data (lower than expected build) has been erased and WTI Crude is testing back to one-week lows with a $44 handle head of today's DOE data. For now it's not weighing on stocks...
----
----

Following last week's Hurrican Hermine-inspired collapse in crude inventories (and API's disapponting build), DOE surprised with another (small) inventory draw (559k barrels). However, machines were confused as the week saw major builds in Gasoline (most in 2 months) and Distillates (most in 8 months). Crude production rose  (+0.4% WoW) for the first time in 4 weeks further confusing the algos. Prices initially knee jerked higher but the product build and increased production sparked panic-selling once $45 stops had been run...

Wondering why the stock and bond markets are tumbling simultaneously? Confused by the market's apparent inability to follow the mainstream media's narrative that higher rates are good for markets? Wonder no longer - the answer, as we have previously detailed - is the collapse in so-called "risk-parity" funds that force leveraged long positions in equity and bond markets to be unwound en masse.

Nothing written in the US on China Econ is reliable .. let’s check this one

This morning Hong Kong’s overnight interbank yuan borrowing rate, or the yuan hibor, shot up to its highest level since February, soaring nearly threefold to 8.16% from only 2.84% on Tuesday, in what many have said was the latest salvo by the PBOC against Yuan shorts.

[[ Si China se presta más es porque está al borde del colapso como nosotros? Lo dudo. The Fact is: our Econ depends a lot on them; if both countries US-China thrive & prosper that is  & will be good for everybody. But: si cae pantalón chino cae lo cochino del US en China, dice un proverbio zechi.]]

Great news America - it's been over 2 full years since the cost of imported goods rose year-over-year (dropping 2.2%in August as expected). The month-over-month drop of 0.2% was bigger than expected and was the first drop since February as US airfares reportedly tumbled (especially to Europe). China's deflationary contagion hit fresh 6 year lows but prices from almost every region declined.

ME & WORLD ISSUES

"We are going to move towards an EU army much faster than people believe." But the creation of a European army, a long-held goal of European federalists, would entail an unprecedented transfer of sovereignty from European nation states to unelected bureaucrats in Brussels, the de facto capital of the EU.

Solo de la exportacion de muerte vivimos: ayer a los Saudis, hoy a Israel again

While the US relationship with Saudi Arabia can be described, perhaps courtesy of the latter's donations to the Clinton campaign, as one of preferential treatment when it comes to arms deals, the relationship with Israel is even simpler. As Reuters reports, the US and Israel reached an agreement on a record new package of at least $38 billion in U.S. military aid to be supplied to Israel over the next decade.

Bayer gana y el pueblo pierde: a comer las bananas-monsanto podridas por dentro?

In a transaction that will allow Bayer to command more than a quarter of the combined world market for seeds and pesticides, not to mention is set to be the biggest M&A deal for 2016, Reuters reported that Bayer has won over Monsanto's management with a $128 per-share cash offer to acquire the global seed market leader, in a deal worth $66 billion.

The ceasefire deal, brokered between Russia and the United States, is made up of a number different facets. First, Russia is required to pressure the Syrian government to stop its military combat activities against what is considered “moderate” US-backed rebels. On the other side, if the ceasefire holds for at least seven days, the United States is supposed to join Russia in military operations against Jobhat al-Nusra (Jobhat Fatah al-Sham). The U.S. will also have to be more clear which “rebels” are “moderate” cannibals and which ones are “extremist” cannibals and, as John Kerry admitted, it will require “some sharing of information” with the Russians.

“This requires halting all attacks, including aerial bombardments, and any attempts to gain additional territory at the expense of the parties to the cessation. It requires unimpeded and sustained humanitarian access to all of the besieged and hard-to-reach areas, including Aleppo,” said US Secretary of State John Kerry.
