Sunday, February 23

07:54 GMT:
Lenin’s statues aren’t the only ones getting the boot in Ukraine. The dismantling of the monument of the Soviet Soldier in the Lvov region’s city of Stryi turns a new page. The monument was erected in 1965. [put down the statue of Lenin has non sense at all: anti-colonialism? Does this means that the new decaying colonialism is better? Or just too much testosterone to be released under cold time, if this is the case, continue doing exercises and place the Statue of McCain instead. Or perhaps this is only a sign of anti-comunism.. If so, what this has to do with freedom of consciousness? Here in the US only those who have child mentality see the communists as buggy men. Who fears them?.. not common people with basic education.. only the rich are afraid of communists. I’m not afraid of them, and I don’t care if they exist. But if I see a Statue of McCain in a park, I will render my respect to him by releasing a stinky far in front of his statue, that will be my way of saying F… u]  No official confirmation of any orders for its removal has been given. The statue was also part of a bigger installation, including an obelisk depicting WWII engravings and an ‘eternal flame.’

07:27 GMT: The number of injured in the Kiev riots now stands at 645. No new casualties or wounded have been reported, according to the ministry of health. Just over two-thirds of those have been hospitalized. On February 22, a total of 42 people sought medical help, of which 33 are now in hospitals, a statement by the ministry read.

06:56 GMT: Downtown Kiev, scenes from which resembled a civil war recently, has witnessed a calm Sunday morning, as those that have gathered were treated to a showing of documentary footage of Viktor Yanukovich’s mansion, filmed a few years back. [Yanukovich’s mansion look like other mansions of rich people in Ucraine, especially in East region. What about the riches of  Klitchko in banks accounts after been financed by Ms Nuland since Dec 2013?]

The barricades around Independence Square are still heavily manned, but outside people are taking morning walks in peace, as others sleep in nearby occupied buildings and tents

06:07 GMT: Russia will decide on a financial aid package for Ukraine once a new government is in place, Russian finance minister, Anton Siluanov, told the media, Itar-Tass reports.

“We indeed discussed purchasing Eurobonds to the value of $2 billion from Ukraine last week, but the political situation has changed abruptly, and we must understand which government it is we’re dealing with, so we’ve decided to wait until a new cabinet has been formed and to better understand the new government’s politics, then, consequently, make a decision,” Siluanov told journalists. [Bye Bye to the help of 15 Bill from Russia. They may invested in the South East side]

The IMF, meanwhile, has offered to help out Ukraine, should its government request their assistance, the Bank’s chairman, Christine Lagarde said, speaking to Itar-Tass.
While the Ukraine is an IMF member, “we’ll need someone there to actually discuss these questions with,” the IMF head said. [that will imposed heavy austerity on the North-West]

05:54 GMT: MPs with Ukraine’s ‘Svoboda’ (Freedom) party are suggesting a temporary media blackout, involving programming from countries that aren’t party to the European agreement on cross-border broadcasting. The measure, intended to prevent the country from sinking into media-driven chaos, was discussed on Friday at the Rada, Ukraine’s Interfax reports.

Notes from the meeting explain that the measure is targeted at programming that fails to“objectively report on events and engages in open calls for separatism.” The blackout will be in place until it is deemed safe to end.
[they have not a consolidated State in the North and are already talking of imposing nazi censorship on free press. Do they need an NSA too? Or a Homeland Security with the porno business of scanning machines in aeroports?]

05:34 GMT: New Interior Minister: Arsen Avakov. The board of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has been dismissed and a new one has been appointed [democratically, of course]  Avakov said that he intends to investigate the recent actions of some senior law enforcers.
Avakov, a former MP from the opposition Batkivshchina party, has also held a meeting with the radical activists and Ukraine’s Security Service to discuss the security situation in the country.

05:02 GMT: The mayor of Kharkov, Gennady Kernes, will continue to carry out his duties, Itar-Tass learned from a spokesperson at the Kharkov City Council. “I talked to [him] not more than 40 minutes ago. We discussed work matters relating to the situation in the city. I don’t consider myself at liberty to discuss his location, it is a matter of security,” Yury Sidorenko said.

The Kharkov mayor, as well as the chairman of the Kharkov regional administration, Mikhail Dobkin, were earlier both thought to have left Ukraine. [if mayor who resign is inside the country and the new rulers do not accepted his resignation and  try to force him to remain in the post, means that this is not a democracy, but the reverse]

In the meantime, several Ukrainian officials have voiced their intention to voluntarily step down. They include the Lvov regional head, Oleg Salo and his deputies, and the Kharkov regional head’s deputies. [these resignations are a sign of division among rebels in the North-West]

01:56 GMT: Armed protesters surrounded the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra on Saturday, also known as the Kiev Monastery of the Caves, a historic Orthodox Christian monastery under ecclesiastic leadership from the Moscow Patriarchate, Ruptly news agency reports.

Around 70 armed militants reportedly surrounded the church establishing patrols that made sure no one enters the premises. The militants demanded that the church be under direct control of the Kiev Patriarchate. [etnic religious cleansing ahead.. is this the freedom of faith the US endorse].  However, some local media reported that armed men came to protect the monastery from looters following reports that it could be robbed. [how it can be robbed if this rebellion is led by democratic leaders financed by McCain n Ms Nuland. Are they not good example to follow? Or perhaps they are not good Christians… consider that: ]  the Saint Sophia Cathedral, is the center of Eastern Orthodox Christianity.

00:31 GMT:  President Yanukovich met with ex-PM Yulia Tymoshenko in Kharkov before she was released, Russian MP Aleksey Mitrofanov told Interfax, citing “reliable” sources inside Yanukovich’s Party of Regions. He said the two met on Saturday morning. [is this the reason why she didn’t accept the post Interior Ministry offered to her by such type of leaders]

00:17 GMT:
Canada has partially evacuated its embassy in Kiev, ITAR-TASS cited Adam Hodge, the press secretary for the country's foreign affairs minister, as saying. All embassy staff whose presence is not required in the current state of emergency, as well as their family members, were asked to leave Kiev temporary, according to Hodge.

Saturday, February 22

22:39 GMT: Meanwhile in Kharkov, a few thousand opposition supporters – both locals and from other parts of the country – are trying to demolish [another] Lenin’s statue, the head of the Russian parliamentary commission on foreign affairs, Aleksey Pushkov, wrote on Twitter.

20:35 GMT: Ukrainian opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko called on protesters not to abandon Independence Square, even though the deal with opposition leaders has already been signed. [but most abandoned. Did Yulia knew that after the deal was coming the plot of no  recognizing the agreement with the Government, the Klitschko opposition and EU commission, and instead demanding the resignation of Yanukovich?. Was the US Embassy the place where it was plotting such move with radical leaders? Or it was just her ego- premonition against Klitschko, the contender in the next election? The case is that she said..]   "You have no right to leave Maidan...Don't stop yet,” she told rioters in an emotional speech.

20:14 GMT: The acting minister of internal affairs, appointed by the Rada earlier on Saturday, has announced a joint meeting of Ukrainian law enforcement, police, and security forces which have taken part in the protection of Independence Square during the violent riots. The meeting will also include members of the Freedom and Right Sector of nationalist groups.

“I have to say, honestly, the situation in Kiev is not simple. Trust in the police has been lost,” Arsen Avakov told local Channel Five TV station.

Avakov said that he and Valentin Nalivaichenko – newly appointed by the Rada to lead the Ukrainian Security Service – will lead the meeting, during which they plan to agree on joint actions and patrolling of the new Ukrainian police, which Avakov said is now on the side of the people.
“I think, in the shortest time we will restore control over the situation, and there will be no unpleasant incidents,” Avakov said.

20:14 GMT: Kharkov regional Governor Mikhail Dobkin and the head of the Kharkov administration, Gennady Kernes, have left Ukraine for Russia, Unian news agency cited Ukrainian border control as saying.

20:10 GMT: Newly-freed Yulia Tymoshenko has given a trademark firebrand speech in front of a large crowd on Independence Square, calling for trials for those responsible for the scores of deaths during the stand-off in Kiev over the past three months.

'When snipers were shooting in hearts of our guys, those bullets will always hurt. If we don't prosecute, we should be ashamed,” said the former prime minister, who says that she will run for president in May. [What about the police been shot and burned in streets]

MORE SIGNS OF DIVISION AMONG OPOSITION  HERE

20:09 GMT: The radical nationalists Right Sector say they will not be leaving Independence Square, defying new Rada speaker Aleksandr Turchinov who has told all those who have manned the barricades for the past weeks to return to their homes, saying that all political objectives have been achieved.

“Insofar as we – Right Sector - are concerned, we are going nowhere,” said a statement from the movement on social network http://VK.com .

The group previously said that its demands – which include a ban on the Communist Party and the Party of Regions – have still not been met. [neo-nazi group, the most radical one?]
