ZERO HEDGE ECONOMICS
Neoliberal
globalization is over. Financiers know it, they documented with graphics
It's been (almost) 100 days and stocks are higher, hype is at its peak, hope
remains higher-ish... there's
just one problem, real economic data
is collapsing...
As today's Q1 GDP proved, relying on 'hope' and 'soft' data
to lift a 'real' economy is simply a false narrative...
How will that translate into Making America Great Again?
----
----
The US economy is on "pause" because of the new
administration, according to Blackrock's Larry Fink, and Trump's tax proposals are unlikely
to spur enough economic growth (due to demographics),
leaving America "on the path to
exploding deficits."
Even with the stock market at
record highs, Mr. Fink said the U.S. is "decelerating."
The market is waiting
for Q1 earnings to determine whether the recent equity rally in the U.S. was
justified...
"I think as we
see the consternation in the marketplace now there is a little pull back.
I think people are waiting to
see corporate earnings for this quarter to see if there is a justification of
this significant rally, especially in U.S. stocks."
...allow us to end
the suspense...it's not.
---
----
----
Yeah, this happened...
And so did this...
Dollar Index fell for the 2nd month in a row (3rd of 4)
erasing most of the gains post-Trump
It was a tough week for 'soft'
data and reality-checks - who do you trust to forecast reality?
Small Caps were hit hard today as "Most Shorted"
stocks' squeeze seemed to end...
Breadth has remained weak in this entire recent surge...
And pretty clear picture of the safe haven buying after Trump
tax plan...
----
----
...we’ve likely just seen the
beginning of foreign equities outperforming US equities after a decade of the opposite occuring.
----
----
From the May 2016 lows, the number of US oil rig counts have only
declined 3 times and this week was no exception. Up for its 15th week in a row (+9 to 697), its
highest level since April 2015, the rig
count continues to pull US crude production higher, stymying OPEC efforts at balance, leaving the bullish case for oil fading fast.
----
----
Apart from stagnant wage growth, dismal economic growth, and tumbling
spending growth, Americans remain 'confident' according to University of
Michigan. Current conditions
fell very modestly but 'hope' rose to its highest since January. Inflation expectations were steady (near record lows) but
buying climates improved MoM.
----
----
We recently wrote about a small $100,000 trade of cheese and butter,
and how this one trade changed 400 years of history in just four hours...
While the trade was small,
it was big for the $7 trillion trade finance industry.
----
----
Enjoy the ride...
----
----
So, here
we are at the end of the first 100-days, with little progress being made toward
the things that count the most with investors. With asset prices currently priced for perfection, the real risk is
that of “disappointment.” It
will likely pay to “err to the side of caution” for now as the risk
is clearly tilted against reward for now.
Here is what I

One hour after the House of Representative
passed the a stopgap spending bill in a 382-30 vote, moments ago the US Senate
likewise voted the measure through; the bill which gives the government a week
before this specatcle has to be repeated again unless a full spending bill is
enacted, now goes to Trump for signing later today.

US troops and armored vehicles have been
deploying along the Syrian-Turkish border, days after a Turkish airstrike
killed 20 U.S.-backed Kurdish fighters. The US involvement is meant to send
"a message of reassurance for the Kurds and almost a warning
message." It also may lead to military conflict between the US and Turkey.

A peace

Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system on the Korean Peninsula,
Washington is trying to "up the ante" in the region, provoking
extreme opposition in China, North Korea and South Korea.

LE PENG will win… WHY?
Melenchon symbolize failure of
the Left in France, as Sanders was in the US.. When this situation happens a leader
don’t control “voters”. A nation became independent in term of vote to finally
vote for radical change. Trump promised such change, he promised to “dry
the swamp” from profiteers of wars abroad, but
“Deep-State” and/or “establishment “ is here very powerful and Trump plan was so
weak that in less than month he surrendered to them. French establishment has
not such a power. People here is more independent & unpredictable.. they
like politics, hate politicians and love revolt. French people also have good
memory and real love for their country. They will vote for National
Independence from the US-NATO and –perhaps- from EU.. Meaning: they will vote for France.. THAT IS LE PENG. It doesn’t matter the US-EU
propaganda in favor of Macron and much less what the loser Melenchon said on this regard:
…
Melenchon Vows Not to Vote for National Front in French Run-Off https://sputniknews.com/europe/201704291053129098-melenchon-no-national-front/
“Jean-Luc
Melenchon, head of the left-wing political movement La France Insoumise [In
FACT: submissive France] who finished forth in the
first round of the presidential election, said on Friday he would not be voting
for the National Front on May 7”.
[ Melenchon vows don’t
make sense at all at this point in time. His statement sounds ridiculous.]
