Last week saw the largest drop in aggregate Treasury short positions since Brexit.
Ironicaly, while bond bears felt the squeeze, traders piled into Eurodollar shorts (increased rate-hike bets) sending the short-end's
positioning to record highs.

It appears the false narrative of the failed healthcare reform bill
being somehow great news for stocks has been eviscerated in early Asia trading.
The dollar has
tumbled to its lowest since Nov 10th, Gold has ripped back above $1250, and S&P futures have
plunged to 6 week lows.

We could easily get a situation
where a garden-variety 5% pullback in the SPX quickly morphs into a fast 10-15%
decline, as funds de-lever their equity longs or flip short. See these charts of where we are in
terms of equity exposure in various trend-following systems, and the size of
these funds today.
The problem with everyone
leaning in one direction is that they scare easily. When realized volatility has been
near all-time lows, as it has been in recent months, the simpler versions of
these strategies view assets as less risky, so they lever them up. What
the models fail to capture is the speed with which volatility can return.
If volatility slowly creeps back up, then the models work fine. But if it suddenly spikes higher,
the models fall apart, other investors quickly de-risk, and everyone is up all
night looking for ghosts. Don’t say you haven’t been warned.

una ley: la acción social bien planeada devora
toda teoría bien escrita. En breve: Trump podria hacer lo inverso de lo
que hace hoy con un simple auto-golpe de Estado que cambie todo el equipo y la
dirección de los recursos asignados a su Gbno. En lugar de beneficiar a las
grandes corporaciones monopólicas y al WS podria hacer lo inverso de que esta
haciendo. El fracaso con el Obama care ha dejado una lección que Trump la sabe
bien: ese no es
el camino. Hay que hacer cambio lo que hizo Teddy
Roosevelt: romper los monopolios y grandes corp multinacionales y volver a lo
que Trump prometió en su campaña electoral: proteger a las medianas y pequeñas
empresas dedicadas AL SECTOR PRODUCTIVO
y no a la mera especulación financiera. La guerra y producción de armas
pueden ser buen negocio para ciertas empresas pero no es esto lo que la nación
quiere. La guerra es un boomerang que tarde o temprano regresara sobre la
cabeza de todos los americanos. Estamos asistiendo al inicio de la carnicería guerra
de Trump, pero lo peor está por venir: la carnicería neoliberal,
la debacle total de la economía que también ya esta empezando y va de la mano
con la agresión militarista que inicio Obama. La carniceria neoliberal si va a
afectarnos a todos, ricos y pobres. La deuda externa es
imposible de pagar y pronto el dollar será insostenible en el mercado mundial.
Muchas bolsas de valores ya están dejando de funcionar en forma regular. Y si
los financistas que se enriquecieron sin medida alguna aseguran que la recesión
es inevitable.. es porque eso eso es real. FDR (el otro Roosevelt enfrento esta realidad en 1930 y supo darle
salida a la crisis. El New Deal y el Glass Steagal Act fueron la solución. Se
trata de retomar esas lecciones, de adaptarlas a la situación actual. Y eso no
requiere de ciencia alguna, solo de la razón y la voluntad de actuar con
decisión. Si creo que esto es posible y en la cartilla de 10 pag –plus
bibliog usada- que estoy enviando como
un overview al respecto, allí expongo las líneas generales del plan. Posible lo
envíe 1ro a 3 economistas y 3 political scientist de America. Va: el 1er borrador está listo. Amo America, mi
2do país, y a mi familia aquí y quiero lo mejor para el USA.
