Imperial Collapse And A License To Kill. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/31/2015. The story is the same every time: some nation, due to a confluence of lucky circumstances, becomes powerful—much more powerful than the rest—and, for a time, is dominant. But the lucky circumstances, which often amount to no more than a few advantageous quirks of geology, be it Welsh coal or West Texas oil, in due course come to an end. In the meantime, the erstwhile superpower becomes corrupted by its own power. As the endgame approaches, those still nominally in charge of the collapsing empire resort to all sorts of desperate measures—all except one: they will refuse to ever consider the fact that their imperial superpower is at an end, and that they should change their ways accordingly.

Burning Down The House: Land, Water & Food. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/31/2015. I’m sure when Talking Heads wrote "Burning Down The House" that they didn’t exactly have financial collapse and environmental degradation in mind. Although with a verse like “Hold tight wait till the party's over. Hold tight we're in for nasty weather. There has got to be a way. Burning down the house” it’s hard not to see that song as strangely prophetic.

Western Democracy Or Tyrannical Dictatorship? You Decide. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/31/2015. As the death toll mounts from the various regional conflicts in the Middle East, one wonders if trading autocratic rule for some semblance of stability isn’t all that bad of a compromise. That said, US foreign policy seems to be everywhere and always inept especially as it relates to the Arab world and as CNN notes, propping up dictatorships at the expense of basic rights and freedoms sows the seeds for violent revolution.

America: The "Nursing Home" Economy. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/31/2015. The key feature of age is that it happens no matter what you think. What does this mean? It means the “old countries” – their assets and their institutions, at least the ones that depend on population, income and credit growth – are “fastened to a dying animal” and are not likely to survive in their present form. Today, these countries, including the US, are victims of demography. Older people get more money from the government. And they pay less in taxes. Old people also slow the rate of GDP, for obvious reasons: They are not adding to output; they are living on it.

"Saudi leaders have said that if troops do go in, they won't leave until they have degraded the Houthis' ability to fight. The Houthis are apt guerrillas. A fight on the ground could prove bloody and lengthy," CNN notes. Unfortunately, it now appears that this “bloody and lengthy” conflict just got a little closer to becoming reality as Reuters reports that Houthi rebels have gained access to a military base at the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the 4th largest oil-shipping chokepoint in the world.

It is the Greeks that have borne the brunt of global derisking through The Ides, Athens Stock Index down over 15% and the worst-performing stock market in the world for March. Year-to-date, Russia joins the 3 amigos at the top of the list (up almost 11% in USD terms) and Ukraine remains the clear laggard, down almost 33% in USD terms. The Iran "Talks" - Just Another US vs Russia (And China) Power Game. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/31/2015. Update, and just as expected: IRAN NUCLEAR NEGOTIATORS MAY MISS 3RD DEADLINE: U.S. OFFICIAL
"The United States and Europe reportedly want the UN Security Council (UNSC) sanctions on Iran to be automatically reversible, meaning that if Iran violates the deal at any point, the UNSC sanctions will automatically be re-imposed on Tehran. Russia opposes such a scenario, saying in such a case the UNSC should decide what to do. Moscow says automatic imposition of sanctions goes against the mechanism of the Security Council. China also reportedly shares Russia’s viewpoint and is against the imposition of automatically reversible sanctions on Iran."

Summary: Rather than celebrating Saudi Arabia’s attack on Yemen, Israel should feel aversion toward it, since the destabilization of any Arab state can only lead to more and more terrorism and ultimately impacts Israel.  The Saudi regime has apparently no problem collaborating with Israel in any international arena to limit Iranian actions. There have been several reports for years about surreptitious contacts between Jerusalem and Riyadh. Nevertheless, the Saudis have been undermining the regime in Syria incessantly for the past four years, even though this could result in a dangerous new terrorist front along Israel’s northern border in the Golan Heights. With any more friends like that supporting the fall of the Baathist regime [Egypt], we’d be sunk.

AL-MONITOR.COM . http://www.al-monitor.com/pulse/contents/afp/2015/03/yemen-conflict-aden.html  BAD DEAL FOR IRAN: it has been conditioned to their loss of sovereignty and State Security

SUMMARY : One of Iran's well-connected conservative editors  - Hossein Shariatmadari, editor of the hard-line Kayhan newspaper, with close relationship with Ayatollah Ali Khameneni- said that the nuclear deal being negotiated could end Iran's ballistic missile program. That is a very bad deal because We will be facing a major tragedy and we will be losing one of the foundations of our military strength, which is our ballistic missiles.”
---

Iran’s conservative figures and media are sounding the alarm on what they claim is a bad deal. The essence of the deal was the removal of the US sanctions on Iran. This has been condictioned to the lost of severignity and State Security. “At March 31 soft deadline for either an agreement or a political framework has pushed some Iranian media into a frenzy, despite acknowledgement that the details of the talks that would reduce Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for the removal of sanctions that were kept  confidential. HOWEVER , Six concerns have been raised by this editor to the attention of the Ayatollah Khamenei:

First , only some of the sanctions are being removed for a nuclear [suspension] while all the sanctions should have been removed.
Second, [for] the Security Council sanctions remain in place.
Third, the suspended sanctions last an interval of six [months] to one year and the continuation of the suspension is dependent on later conditions.
Fourth, the Security Council resolution, which is supposed to guarantee the agreement and commitments of both sides, will fall under Chapter 7 of the UN Charter, whose deals with threats to world peace and security. Accepting the resolution of Chapter 7 means that Iran accepts that its nuclear program is and was a threat against international peace and security.
Fifth, the deal that has been mentioned, contrary to expectations and what has been emphasized, is a two- or multi-step deal, and the responsibilities of those details have not been made clear.
Sixth, Iran’s commitments are irreversible while the P5+1 commitments are reversible.”

ONE MORE CONCERN:
Seventh: the nuclear deal includes a new round of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) within the framework of possible military dimensions (PMD) of its nuclear program. If we accept the issue PMD means that “we have to allow IAEA inspectors to inspect our missile industry.” So, under this agreement, Iran could be asked to suspend parts of its missile program. “We will be facing a major tragedy and we will be losing one of the foundations of our military strength, which is our ballistic missiles.”  Shariatmadari suggested that later Kerry will demand the Iran be subordinated to the IAEA on PMD, that is “ a new and dangerous trap"

The Fed's Startling Student Debt Numbers That Every Young Person Should See. by Simon Black via Sovereign Man blog,   Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/30/2015. Like many of our prevailing social constructs, this education system is on the way out...

What I’m about to tell you is not my own opinion or even analysis. It’s original data that comes from the United States Federal Reserve and national credit bureaus.
  1. 40 million Americans are now in debt because of their university education, and on average borrowers have four loans with a total balance of $29,000.
  2. According to the Fed, “Student loans have the highest delinquency rate of any form of household credit, having surpassed credit cards in 2012.”
  3. Since 2010, student debt has been the second largest category of personal debt, just after a home mortgage.
  4. The delinquency rate for student loans is now hovering near an all-time high since they started collecting data 12 years ago.
  5. Only 37% of total students loan balances are currently in repayment and not delinquent.
The rest—nearly 2 out of 3—are either behind on payments, in all-out default, or have entered some sort of deferral program to delay making payments, with a small percentage still in school.
It’s pretty obvious that this is a giant, unsustainable bubble (more on this below). But even more important are the personal implications.

University graduates now matriculate with tens of thousands of dollars worth of debt.
Debt is another form of servitude. Like medieval serfs, debt keeps people tied to jobs they dislike in places they don’t want to be working for bosses they hate doing things that make them feel unfulfilled.
Debt makes it very difficult to walk away and start fresh.

Conclusion: “It’s just as unsustainable to expect a 22-year old to enter the world with uncertain prospects and tens of thousand of dollars of debt.
And, like our monetary, banking and political systems, it’s time for a reset.”

As The Telegrpah explains, in the last three weeks, the state has been gripped by a banking crisis that threatens to take it to the brink; and Andorra, which is not a member of the eurozone but uses the single currency on an informal basis, would have no way of bailing them out (with no central bank or lender of last resort). Broke? You May Now Be Entitled To a Free Home. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/30/2015. "Now a legal quirk could bring a surreal ending to... foreclosure cases around the country: [borrowers] may get to keep their homes without ever having to pay another dime."

However, in a growing number of foreclosure cases filed when home prices collapsed during the financial crisis, lenders may never be able to seize the homes because the state statutes of limitations have been exceeded, according to interviews with housing lawyers and a review of state and federal court decisions.

Bank of America, for example, has initiated the foreclosure process on roughly 20,000 mortgages that have not been paid in at least five years. The bank estimates that 90 percent of those homes are still occupied.

The courts are not the only source of delay. Over the years, the federal government has made 69 changes to its mortgage modification programs, forcing lenders repeatedly to scrap previous offers to homeowners and extend new terms. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-03-30/broke-you-may-now-be-entitled-free-home

$20 Oil Looms As Iran-Nuclear Deal Nears Deadline. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/30/2015. As the deadline for Iran nuclear talks looms, the possibility of a deal which in some way lifts crude export sanctions is starting to be realized. As we warned 2 weeks ago, despite all the rhetoric, a confluence of political factors makes a deal highly likely at this point; and as The Telegraph reports, Iran is a sleeping oil giant holding 9% of the world’s proven oil reserves and with an estimated 2m barrels per day of excess supply already sloshing around international markets, any significant increase in Iranian output could easily trigger a further rout in prices. While OPEC may well clamp down on this in June, as The Telegraph concludes, by then a barrel of oil may already be selling for $20.
