The prime suspect in the murder of Russian opposition figure Boris Nemtsov, Zaur Dadaev, who previously confessed to the murder, now states that he has an alibi. According to his lawyer, Dadaev claims to have been “somewhere else” at the time of the murder. The defense team says they will officially declare the alibi to court if Dadaev's claim is proven to be true. At the moment the layers are checking the credibility of he alibi. The existence of an alibi was previously voiced by another suspect involved in the case – Tamerlane Eskerhanov. According to him, on the night of the murder, he was in a nightclub.

"Colossal Defeat" For Obama As Australia Joins China's Regional Bank. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/16/2015. Having attacked its "closest ally" UK for "constant accomodation" with China, we suspect President Obama will be greatly displeased at yet another close-ally's decision to partner up with the Chinese-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). As The Australian reports, "make no mistake," the decision by Australia's Abbott government to sign on for negotiations to join China’s regional bank, foreshadowed by Tony Abbott at the weekend,  "represents a colossal defeat for the Obama administration’s incompetent, distracted, ham-fisted diplomacy in Asia." It seems de-dollarization continues...

California Is Turning Back Into A Desert And There Are No Contingency Plans. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/16/2015. Once upon a time, much of the state of California was a barren desert.  And now, thanks to the worst drought in modern American history, much of the state is turning back into one.  Back in early 2014, California Governor Jerry Brown declared a drought emergency for the entire state, but since that time water usage has only dropped by 9 percent.  That is not nearly enough.  The state of California has been losing more than 12 million acre-feet of total water a year since 2011, and we are quickly heading toward an extremely painful water crisis unlike anything that any of us have ever seen before.

Neil Howe: What To Expect From The Fourth Turning We're Now In. by Adam Taggart via PeakProsperity.com, Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/16/2015. "History’s fourth turnings are full of Hobson’s choices, full of grim choices. I think that the what the Fed got into -- back in 2000 as well 2009, 2010 and then with QE -- they got into that with a feeling of they had no choice; this is crisis intervention. And crisis intervention became a habit... I just think that the full consequences of it have not yet been fully perceived, and I think they will be when the financial markets ultimately reflect the damage that has been done to the economy as a whole. And I think that will happen probably over the next year and a half -- if it even takes that long."
Fourth turnings are characterized by a growing demand for social order, yet supply of it remains weak. The emergence of the surveillance state, a perpetual war machine, increased intervention in the markets by the central planners, greater government control of critical systems like health care and the Internet -- all of these are classic signs that we are well into a fourth turning now:

China Becomes World's Third Largest Weapons Dealer. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/16/2015. China overtakes Germany to become the world's third largest arms exporter just as Western military spending outside the US fails to keep pace with China and Russia. More than  68 percent of Chinese exports went to Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar. Beijing also sold major arms to 18 African states. Analysts say Chinese-made equipment has found eager buyers among countries at odds with the United States and its allies. SIPRI notes, exporting weapons is increasingly tied to maintaining Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, and Northrop’s bottom lines rather than to maintaining security:
The volume of US exports of major weapons rose by 23 per cent between 2005–2009 and 2010–14. The USA’s share of the volume of international arms exports was 31 per cent in 2010–14, compared with 27 per cent for Russia. Russian exports of major weapons increased by 37 per cent between 2005–2009 and 2010–14. During the same period, Chinese exports of major arms increased by 143 per cent, making it the third largest supplier in 2010–14, however still significantly behind the USA and Russia.

The USA has long seen arms exports as a major foreign policy and security tool, but in recent years exports are increasingly needed to help the US arms industry maintain production levels at a time of decreasing US military expenditure’, said Dr Aude Fleurant, Director of the SIPRI Arms and Military Expenditure Programme.
Here are the top 10 exporters by country…
...and here is the trend…

New York Fed Propaganda: "The Story Of The Federal Reserve System" In Cartoons. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/16/2015. To truly understand what The Fed does, we go to the source... "The Fed is best known for its influence in money and credit conditions in the economy in order to help the US economy experience strong growth in output and income, high employment, and stable prices." So factory output growth is now negative, income stagnant, the percentage of employed people in the population is catastrophic, and prices (oil collapse? stock explosion? record beef and beer prices?) are anything but stable.

The Best "Democracy" Money Can Buy: For Every Dollar Spent Influencing US Politics, Corporations Get $760 Back. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/16/2015. Between 2007 and 2012, 200 of America’s most politically active corporations spent a combined $5.8 Billion on federal lobbying and campaign contributions. What they gave pales compared to what those same corporations got: $4.4 Trillion in federal business and support. Here is the visual representation of this stunning finding: for every dollar spent on influencing politics, the nation’s most politically active corporations received $760 from the government.  [is this democracy or plutocracy ?.. OR scum ? ]

As Israel Votes, Meet The "Anyone But Bibi" Coalition. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/16/2015. Israelis will elect a new parliament March 17. As WaPo notes, the main contest pits the right-wing Likud party of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against a surprisingly strong challenge from the Zionist Union, a center-left political alliance led by Isaac Herzog of the Labor party. Polls place Herzog's bloc ahead of Likud, but that's no guarantee of victory. Since Israel's first election in 1949, no single party has ever won an outright majority in the 120-seat Knesset, the name for the Israeli parliament. That means smaller political parties -- and there are 26 in total -- play a significant role in shaping the ruling coalition that forms the Israeli government after the ballots get counted. There appear to be three main scenarios for Israel's next coalition...

What Saudi Arabia Told The Bank Of England About Why Oil Crashed And Where It Is Headed Next. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/16/2015. "Ladies and gentlemen.
Now a special challenge for Zero Hedge readers: spot the number of lies uttered by the advisor in the text below. Please,  exclude his repeat denials of the "conspiracy theories" - those don't count.
***
A few weeks ago, in Riyadh, I was at a small, private function along with the British central bank governor, Mark Carney. Mr Carney asked me two questions.

First, why did the oil price drop? And the second, where is the price heading? I will tell you today what I said to him then."- Ibrahim Al-Muhanna, Advisor to the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources for Saudi Arabia:
I do not believe the fundamentals of supply and demand justified the sudden and rapid price fall during the second half of last year. The market was balanced, and commercial stocks were within their normal range. Yes, supply was starting to increase, but demand remained strong and there was not a very sudden rise in commercial stocks.
I believe the price fall can be put down to expectation and speculation. It was not about fundamentals. ...  The recent price fall was due largely to expectation and perception about future supply and demand. Also similar is the wrong assumptions of changing Saudi oil policy, and the ever-present – and incorrect – belief in conspiracy theories.

Saudi Arabia is, and remains, committed to stable oil prices that are fair for producers and consumers, and fair for the global industry and global economy. We want a transparent and balanced oil market. We seek to meet the demands of our customers. We have a long-term view, and we do not make knee-jerk reactions to headlines.
Thank you for listening.

Putin Warns "We Were Ready" To Use Nukes To Secure Crimea. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/16/2015 THIS ARTICLE ACCOUNT FOR WAR MONGERISM & DISTORTION OF FACTS AGAINST RUSSIA. It was CNN who used the words “Putin Ready To Use Nukes To Secure Crimea” and AP validate such lie as true the next day. AP& CNN work together in this “art” of war mongerism & distortion of facts against Russia. Attributing to Putin what belong to AP-CNN is a nasty distortion that may uncover the US plan to attack Russia and blame them for starting the conflict.  Read it: “AP reports that a documentary which aired last night (CNN) shows Putin explaining that Russia was ready to bring its nuclear weapons into a state of alert during last year's tensions over the Crimean Peninsula “… What is added by AP is an incoherent mix of two dates : last year’s tensions with  last Sunday statement. CNN & AP do not show any evidence of Putin saying “ready to use nukes” neither last year nor las Sunday.  It was written this way: As AP reports, “Russia was ready to bring its nuclear weapons into a state of alert during last year's tensions over the Crimean Peninsula and the overthrow of Ukraine's president, President Vladimir Putin said in remarks aired on Sunday”. MEANING: here we have not only war mongerism against Russia, but a nasty distortion of facts intending to accuse Russia of starting a nuclear war] http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-03-16/putin-warns-we-were-ready-use-nukes-secure-crimea . Caught On Tape: State Department's Psaki Smirks About US Policy Supporting Coups. by Mike Krieger via Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/16/2015  When even the propagandists smirk at their own propaganda, you know Washington has reached 'peak contempt' for its citizenry...
In case you weren’t aware, Venezuelan authorities recently accused the U.S. of attempts to overthrow its government. In a press conference, U.S. State Department spokeswoman, Jen Psaki, vehemently denied such claims and then went ahead and spouted talking points so ridiculous, only a complete ignoramus could believe them. She said: “ As a matter of long-standing policy, the United States does not support political transitions by non-constitutional means”.

Germany Has Had It With Greece: Schauble Says "Doesn't Know What To Do With Greece Now". Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/16/2015. In his fiercest rhetoric yet, Germany's angry Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble unloaded at a CDU event today:
SCHAEUBLE SAYS DOESN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH GREECE NOW, NEW GREEK GOVERNMENT HAS DESTROYED ALL THE TRUST THAT HAD BEEN REBUILT
He went on to explain that "no one I talk to sees how Greek approach can work," which perhaps explains why Greek 3Y bond yields spiked back above 20% for the first time since the election today.
[What seems clear is that Germany and its allies are trying to force Syriza into accepting conditions that will undermine its support in Greece and demoralize anti-austerity movements in other countries. … But the key to a solution is exploding the myth.
That has already begun. Over the past few weeks, demonstrators in Greece, Spain, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Great Britain, Belgium and Austria have poured into the streets to support Syriza's stand against the Troika.
In the end, the grasshoppers might just turn Aesop's fable upside down. Said Conn Hallinan in Lies and myths about Greece and Europe’s debt. http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article41243.htm Another critical thinker said that all this crisis is a simulacrum well calculated by Germany and its close allies. They do not need the EU nor euros .. they know what is coming .. they are ready to dissolve the EU .. and perhaps joining the Eurasian project lead by China-Russia .. they have a future in such block.. not with NATO-US-London .. So, we have to wait a little bit..]

Varoufakis' Latest Fiasco: FinMin Claims "Middle Finger To Germany" Clip Fake; Germany Disagrees. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/16/2015. It was a tough weekend (again) for Greece's embattled FinMin Yanis Varoufakis. After walking out on a CNBC interview when asked if he was a liability (after his photo shoot caused a storm in Greece), a video surfaced showing the outspoken minister giving the middle finger to Germany saying "solve the problem yourself." He has come out swinging this morning, as The Telegraph reports, Varoufakis exclaims, "That video was doctored. I've never given the finger, I've never given the middle finger ever." However, the user who uploaded it to YouTube denied it was a fake and, based on The Telegraph's poll, 67% believe Varoufakis did it. Furthemore, the German talk-show that aired the clip has confirmed "no evidence of manipulation or falsification," and, for the first time, a majority of Germans now want Greece out of the union.

The Last Time This Happened, The Fed Launched QE 2. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/16/2015. The prospects of a rate hike by the Fed are looking increasingly shaky and downright laughable, not just because the start to 2015 for the US economy has been the worst in "negative surprises" terms since Lehman, or because the Atlanta Fed Q1 real-time GDP forecast is about to go negative (consensus originally expected this print to be 3.5% if not higher), but because the last time this happened, the Fed launched QE2. What is "this"? Bank of America explains.

US Manufacturing Output Falls For 3rd Month - Worst Since Lehman. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/16/2015. Along with a massive revision for January (from +0.2% to -0.3%), February's Factory Output fell 0.2% (missing expectations for the 3rd month in a row). This is the 3rd drop in a row for factory output - the worst run since 2009. Overall industrial production missed for the 3rd month in a row but managed a meager 0.1% rise on the back of the biggest rise in utility output ever. Auto vehicles and parts production tumbled 3.0% MoM.

Empire State Manufacturing Misses: New Orders Slide To 16 Month Lows, Capex Plunges. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/16/2015. At 6.90, Empire State Manufacturing missed expectations of 8.00 (and dropped from the previous 6.9 print) for the 2nd weakest print in 11 months. While New Orders tumbled back into the red (and 16-month lows), average workweek and number of employees rose markedly (making this survey once again seem a total farce). "Hope" for the future improved (though remains lower than most of the last year's prints) but new order expectations, tech spend, and capex all plunged.

Putin Reappears, Puts 40,000 Troops On Full Alert As Part Of "Snap-Readiness Exercises". Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/16/2015. After disappearing for ten days from the public's eye, theories surrounding his absence ranged from the tabloidy (fathering a baby with a Russian gymnast), to the trivial (lower back issues), to the bizarre (another putsch in the Kremlin), to the idiotic (dead). All that can be cast aside when moments ago we saw with our own eyes that the Russian president simply wanted some time away and has now reappeared for his meeting with the Kyrgyz president.  But while Putin may have kept a low visibility profile, he was very well heard, and as reported earlier today, the Russian president ordered nearly 40,000 troops in northern and western Russia to be put on full alert early Monday as part of snap-readiness exercises.

Hillary co-author of ISIL: Pushkov. Tue Mar 17, 2015 Hillary Clinton is responsible for the disaster in Syria, says Russia’s Alexei Pushkov. At parliament hearings in the State Duma on Monday, Pushkov  referred to the American Senator as “a co-author of the ISIL” terrorists. He stated that Obama’s successors are “either well known to us, like Hillary Clinton who, in my opinion, is the author of the disastrous crisis in Syria and a co-author of the ISIL, or are totally insane people from the Republican Party."  Last November, Paul Craig Roberts, a former Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury and Associate Editor of the Wall Street Journal, said Clinton’s presidency “would mean war with Russia”. “As Michel Chossudovsky and Noam Chomsky have written, the war would be nuclear,” Roberts added.
