China Hard Landing: Blame The Smog.  Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/26/2015. Bloomberg estimates industrial output may have to be slashed by a fifth in order for Beijing to hit its own pollution targets and by up to 40% if China wants its citizens to be able to breathe the same air as the rest of the world. Earlier this week, we got further evidence of just how quickly China’s economy is slowing down (hard landing anyone?) when the March manufacturing PMI printed in contraction territory, the employment sub index dove to Lehman levels, and rail freight fell 9%. While disconcerting, this isn’t all that surprising given that if one looks at what really matters (i.e electricity usage, rail freight volume, and credit growth), it’s pretty clear that China’s economy isn’t expanding at anywhere near the targeted 7% and hasn’t been for quite some time. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-03-26/china-hard-landing-blame-smog

China's Demographic Destiny Disaster (In 2 Simple Charts). Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/26/2015. China’s economy is slowing, and the debate is raging over whether the country is headed for an abrupt hard landing or whether the slowdown will stabilize into a soft landing that may already be underway. However it plays out, Schwab's Jeff Kleintop notes, one thing is clear: A return to the double-digit growth rates of years past seems unlikely. Demographics are destiny.. and China faces two unstoppable trajectories.

China's Stock Bubble Leaves BNP Speechless: "What Happens Next Is An Unknown-Unknown". Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/26/2015. BNP is out with a note calling China’s equity bubble “a microcosm for the overall economy: unsustainable growth in leverage masking ever-deteriorating fundamentals and increasing future downside risks. Margin purchases are now accounting for almost 20% of equities daily turnover which itself has soared to wholly unprecedented levels in another sign of self-feeding speculative frenzy. What happens next is clearly an ‘unknown-unknown’."

Did Saudi Arabia Just Suffer Its Largest Foreign Capital Flight In 15 Years?. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/26/2015. The last few days have been almost the worst for the Saudi Arabian stock market in 4 years. Between low oil prices, a new King's big social welfare budget, and now "war," it appears this year's dead cat bounce from last year's exuberance is dying rather rapidly. However, what is perhaps even more troublesome for The Kingdom than the net worth destruction and potential blowback from instigating war against the Houthis is the fact that this month saw the largest drop in foreign curreny reserves on record (over 15 years) for the Arab nation... somewhat suggesting capital flight on a scale never seen before in one of the richest states in the world.

Treasury Collateral Shortage Crosses The Atlantic, Makes European Landfall. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/26/2015. We're just a little over two weeks into PSPP and signs are already beginning to show that the ECB is effectively breaking the market. "The soaring cost of borrowing government bonds in secured lending markets highlights the distortions caused by the ECB's asset-purchase scheme, which analysts say could clog up Europe's financial system," Reuters notes.

Why Is Russia Building Massive Underground Bomb Shelters?. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/26/2015. Did you know that the Russians have a massive underground complex in the Ural mountains that has been estimated to be approximately 400 square miles in size?  In other words, it is roughly as big as the area inside the Washington D.C. beltway.  Back in the 1990s, the Clinton administration was deeply concerned about the construction of this enormous complex deep inside Yamantau mountain, but they could never seem to get any straight answers from the Russians.  The command center for this complex is rumored to be 3,000 feet directly straight down from the summit of this giant rock quartz mountain.  And of course U.S. military officials will admit that there are dozens of other similar sites throughout Russia, although most of them are thought to be quite a bit smaller.  But that is not all that the Russians have been up to.

WHY YEMEN MATTERS?. GEO-POLITICAL & ECONOMIC pre-CAUSE OF WW3
INTRODUCTION  BY Hugo Adan March 26
The neoliberal model doesn’t work: it created extremes of inequality inside super-power countries and among nations at world level. Parasitic & unhealthy consumerism requires continue pumping of oil and this source of energy is creating unsustainable level of contamination and breach of natural laws (earth quakes and water damages) that cannot be easily repaired. On top, the oil resources are concentrated in the hands of anti-democratic oligarchies of the Middle East whose rulers don’t care for humanity at all. Their royalties believe that they can impose an economic dictatorship on the whole world (dumping of oil) just because their kings manage to serve and accommodate with the oligarchies in America and Eurpean countries (those who don’t do it will facedthe fate of Gaddafy). The oil is a natural resource very bad administered by those royalties in the middle East (specially Saudis and Qatar). They do not care for the life of other Muslims (case in point: Iraq, Libya, Syria..)  they care only for their own greet and exuberance. To those crowns only matters their money hidden in London, American and European Banks, they do not care for Muslims at all. The US and some western NATO allies are ridden those mules in Saudi-Qatar in their own interest too: they believe in war as a chance to plunder the riches of China and Russia allies, to whom they imposed their piracy rules known as economic sanctions. This is the context of the current invasion of Yemen.  The UN did not have the power to stop the economic terrorism of US and NATO allies. They believe that they can go further to asphyxiate Russia and China by using their nuke power and declaring war against all developing countries of BRICS if they do not submit to them. Yemen invasion is clearly affecting the life of China and Russia, as shown in the article below. The invasion of Yemen is a declaration of war not only against Russia and China, is a declaration of war against all international community. When elephants  fight is the grass who suffer, the poor in all nations. The West couldn’t stop and punish crimes of war and crimes against humanity committed by US allies (they gave especial welcome to Israel terrorism, and now Saudis wants the same). All NATO countries of the West are accomplice in the coming holocaust.  The only way to remedy this problem is an emergency call of the UN General Assembly to deal with this issue asap.

China "Is Not Another US", Does Not Seek "Yuan Hegemony". Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/26/2015. "The establishment of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has been depicted by a few overseas media outlets as if China is building its own version of the Bretton Woods system. The Bretton Woods system is a product of the old days. The new global trends created the AIIB and there is no room to look back to the old days of one currency's hegemony," a state-controlled news outlet says, just as China pushes for yuan dominance in the AIIB.

3 Things: No Money, Wall Street's Big Scam, Bottom 80%. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/26/2015 Much of the commentary from the more liberal leaning media has continued to tout that the rise in asset markets over the last few years are clear evidence of economic prosperity in this country. However, is that really the case? In order for rising asset prices to be reflective of overall economic prosperity, the "wealth" generated by those rising asset prices should impact a broad swath of the American populous. Let's take a look to see if that is the case.

Building Explodes, Collapses In Manhattan, Multiple Injuries Reported - Live Webcast. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/26/2015. While it is unclear at this moment if this is merely the latest casualty of below normal Capex (or was the result of a gas leak), or if there was foul play involved, moments ago the NYC scanner was lit up with reports that a building had collapsed, following an explosion, on 7th street and 2nd avenue, in the East Village in Manhattan.

Yemen Ground Invasion By Saudi, Egyptian Troops Imminent. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/26/2015. Moments ago AP reported that Egyptian military and security officials told The Associated Press that the military intervention will go further, with a ground assault into Yemen by Egyptian, Saudi and other forces, planned once airstrikes have weakened the capabilities of the rebels. "The assault will be by ground from Saudi Arabia and by landings on Yemen's Red and Arabian Sea coasts. The aim is not to occupy Yemen but to weaken the Houthis and their allies until they enter negotiations for power-sharing, the officials said."

Putin Says Attempts To Tip Nuclear Balance Don't Scare Russia, Moscow Will Uncover "Schemes". Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/26/2015. Russia is once again ratcheting up the rhetoric, this time to a fever pitch. Just a day after Putin’s Security Council posted a remarkably accurate and amusingly concise assessment of US foreign policy aims on its website, a spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry as well as President Putin himself are out with strong condemnations of both the NATO presence in Eastern Europe as well as US plans to arm Kiev.

Thank You, Fed - Warren And Jorge Are Thrilled By Another Play Day In The Casino. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/26/2015. So what has transpired is another day and another play in the casino. This ketchup and mac merger could not be more emblematic of how the Fed’s destruction of honest financial markets has fatally deformed American capitalism. Warren and Jorge are understandably singing Janet’s praise. Everyone else should be getting out the torches and pitchforks.

Meet The "Surveillance State Repeal Act" – A Bipartisan Bill To Kill The Patriot Act. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/26/2015. "Revelations about the NSA’s programs reveal the extraordinary extent to which the program has invaded Americans’ privacy. I reject the notion that we must sacrifice liberty for security — we can live in a secure nation which also upholds a strong commitment to civil liberties. This legislation ends the NSA’s dragnet surveillance practices, while putting provisions in place to protect the privacy of American citizens through real and lasting change." – Rep. Mark Pocan on the Surveillance State Repeal Act

Putin Is Becoming A "Vulture" Bond Investor. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/26/2015. [ARE RUSSIANS COMING AGAIN? This time they will be more welcome than in the time of Reagan]. With Washington throwing its full faith and credit behind a new Ukrainian bond issue, it appears it’s time for Moscow to play spoiler to current debt restructuring talks between Kiev and its creditors. Russia holds some $3 billion of Ukraine's debt and doesn't think it should have to incur losses as part of any deal because Vladimir Putin is no average joe private creditor.

Germanwings Co-Pilot "Deliberately Destroyed" Airplane, Identified As 28-Year Old German Citizen. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/26/2015 In one of the most chilling segments of this morning's press conference describing what was found on the cockpit voice recorder, screams were heard from passengers and crew as the realisation of what was about to happen struck them all. Prosecutor Brice Robin's findings state that when the German Captain left the cockpit - following what appeared to be - the 28-year-old German co-pilot (who was alive to the end) refused to re-open the door and began an "intentional", "controlled", and "steady" descent as he "seems to have sought to destroy the plane." Nothing indicates that this was a terrorist incident.

The 10 Things Germany Needs To Do To Save The Eurozone (And Itself). Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/26/2015. The political pressure on Germany is rising in Europe. The country faces a choice: Continue business as usual or change the strategy? Only the latter option may give it real influence on shaping the future course of economic and political affairs in Europe. Playing defense is the comfortable choice, but it may be the wrong strategy. What needs to be done? Below is a proposal for saving the Eurozone in a way that would safeguard Germany’s interests, too. [the 11 thing to save the Eurozone is to say the truth about the airplane, and the 12, is condoning  the Greek sovereign debt to zero ]

Middle East Proxy War: Presenting The Massive "Decisive Storm" Coalition. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/26/2015. On one side of the latest proxy war in the Middle East are Yemen's Shiite Houthi rebel forces and their prominent backer, Iran. On the other side are the Suuni states led by Saudi Arabia and henceforth dubbed as the "Decisive Storm" coalition. Here they are.
Overnight in Yemen, where as we reported yesterday a coalition led by Saudi Arabia and backed by the US has launched an airborne assault on Yemen's Houthi rebels at the request of the self-exiled government (at last check Yemen's president was in Oman), which confronts the Suuni states led by Saudi Arabia, against the mostly Shiite militia, which has the broad support of Iran.
Who is in this coalition, aptly named "Decisive Storm" (one hopes not by the same person who was responsible for "Desert Storm")? The following map from Al Arabiya should explain.

It is very likely that more nations will enter the conflict, although there is a possibility the "war" may be shorter than expected: Arabiya also notes there are reports that top Houthi leadership Abdulkhaliq al-Houthi, Yousuf al-Madani, and Yousuf al-Fishi were killed, and head of the Revolutionary Committee for the Houthis, Mohammed Ali al-Hothi, was wounded.
Considering the most levered asset class to the Yemen war is oil, a prolonged war is what all those who are bullish oil would prefer, and as such it would certainly be in the Military Industrial Complex' best interest to have drawn out conflict rather than one which fizzles quickly with the death of a few key Houthi individuals.

Bonds & Crude Dump, The Dollar & Stocks Jump As Top Houthi Leaders Reportedly Killed. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/26/2015 After overnight strength in oil (post-Yemen) and bonds and gold (and weakness in stocks), the last few minutes have seen some of this reverse as chatter crosses the wire of the death of top Houthi leadership in Yemen. Oil prices are tumbling, the dollar is surging, and bond yields are spiking. Stocks are starting to creep off the lows...

Saudi Arabia Imposes Naval Blockade On Red Sea Strait, Deploys 150,000 Troops As Iran Condemns Military Action. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/26/2015. As noted earlier, the biggest significance of any Yemen conflict has little to do with its own domestic oil production, which at 133,000 bpd is negligible, but due to its location, which not only shares a border with Saudi Arabia, but more importantly due to the Bab el-Mandeb strait which connects the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden: it is the fourth-biggest shipping chokepoint in the world by volume (3.8 million barrels a day of oil and petroleum products flowed through it in 2013) and is just 18 miles wide at its narrowest point. It’s located between Yemen, Djibouti, and Eritrea, and connects the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea. And since to Saudi Arabia preserving the logistics of oil supply is critical, it is hardly surprising that as Egypt's Ahram Gate reported earlier, the Saudi-led Firmness Storm coalition imposed a naval blockade on Bab El-Mandab strait earlier today. The Saudi navy's western fleet has also secured Yemen's main ports including Aden and Midi.

Futures Tumble As Yemen War Starts; Oil, Gold Surges. Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/26/2015. In a somewhat surprising turn of events, this morning's futures reaction to last night's shocking start of a completely unexpected Yemen proxy war, which has seen an alliance of Gulf State launch an air, and soon land, war against Yemen's Houthi rebels, is what one would expect: down, and down big. This is surprising, because on previous occasions one would expect the NY Fed, or its pet hedge fund, Citadel, or the BOJ or ECB (via the CME's "Central Bank Incentive Program") to aggressively buy ES to prevent a slide, something has changed, and for the BTFDers, that something may be very fatal with the e-Mini rapidly approaching a 1-handle yet again. The offset to tumbling stocks, as previously observed, is oil, with WTI soaring over 6% in a delayed algo response to the Qatar headlines.
