Seasonality - (still) the strongest narrative around

Time to get busy for the next upside pain trade? If seasonality is to hold, tech should be the big squeezer from here.

Bitcoin - April déjà vu?

Bitcoin is approaching the huge 58k level. The chart looks similar to what we saw back in Mach/April. Back then the crypto had exploded to the upside, consolidated at highs, showed boring price action that suddenly became volatile and it all broke down.

Let's see how this develops from here, but 58k is the line in sand level to watch. This is the lower part of the trend channel and the break down level from April. Also note we are breaking below the 50 day as of writing

Equity inflows re-accelerate again back to >$10bn

US Equity funds had estimated inflows of $12.3 billion for the week, compared to estimated inflows of $1.3 billion in the previous week

EU-R - time to bounce?

Recent euro hate and the move lower has been rather extreme. As we noted yesterday, the DXY put in a big shooting star candle and the euro put in a massive hammer like formation.

This is not a euro bull call, but the euro is very oversold and could be setting up for a bounce here, despite the rising corona cases hitting the continent.

Oil - moving into oversold

Oil continues trading lower. Brent's big support is down around the 78 level. That is the break out level from Sep as well as the summer highs, so watch that level closely.

The 100 day comes in slightly lower. RSI is getting rather oversold, but not extreme yet.

"However, with inflation rising and under pressure from Senate Democrats, we think the White House will ask the DOE to execute an exchange agreement, accelerate mandated sales, or a combination of both. We expect about 30 mb to be delivered from the SPR over the course of a month and to be completed before the end of the 2021. Though the SPR is designed to draw down inventories at a rate of 4.4 mbd, assuming sufficient pipeline capacity, SPR drawdowns have never exceeded a pace of more than 0.9 mbd in any given week of previous major sales and exchanges."

Retail, Rivian, Russell...

How long will the new love affair between Retail Army and "Russel + Rivian" continue?

JPM: "This past week, retail order flow into the US equity market totaled $3.2B, in addition to $1.9B bought via option delta. On a leverage adjusted basis, net buying of Russell 2000 ETFs remained 1.5 standard deviation above 12M average. On the other hand, NASDAQ ETF imbalance was approximately 0.75 standard deviation below and S&P 500 in-line with their respective 12M averages. At the single stock level, Rivian topped the retail popularity table and received $500MM in retail net buying. Rivian options only started trading on Tuesday but already attracted +$20MM of delta buying, split 3:1 between long calls and short puts" (JPM).

The Turkey sucker

BBVA has the biggest Turkey exposure (from a non Turkish company). Just before the latest TRY collapse, the Spanish lender also announced they want to buy the remaining 50% stake of Garanti bank and basically double the Turkey exposure.

Last Friday (here) we reminded our readers about this and we wrote:

"It looks like people have forgotten about that huge Turkish exposure BBVA is holding. There is obviously more to BBVA than Turkish exposure, but as the TRY approaches the 10 level, people could start looking for who is holding what in Turkey."

Fast forward to today and BBVA has fallen sharply. It took the market a few days to start pricing that huge Turkey exposure...

MOVE moves lower

Bond vol dipped today, something we haven't seen in a while.

Despite the MOVE moving lower and VIX moving marginally higher, the bond vs equity vol gap remains very wide.
