DN: MISSION INCOMPLETE in EXPANDING the DEBATES

Open letter to  Amy Goodman

This is Hugo Adan, member of a Committee ViVA LA RAZA. We are coordinating a response to the trap “vote for the lesser evil” among Latino students from different universities of the US, those with links to grass root organizations. 

First, we congratulate you, DN is making historically un-parallel and amazing effort to pave the route for real democracy in the US. [Personally I admire you: you are mi hero].  

Second, you managed to put together in the same table two alternative choices to the dirty couple. The representative of the Green party and the Justice Party are great people, just that we need it for the United Front as third choice in American politics. 

Third, although their consistent rhetorical critique to democrats and republicans, their messages won’t mean nothing to the nation if they do not put aside their small differences and create the United Front for real democracy. 

Fourth, the third choice is that we need right now. Both of them (Green Party and Justice Party candidates) should go in the same list. It is symbolic the issue who runs for President and who as VP. My personal opinion is that the lady should lead the United Front as Presidential candidate; this is also the opinion of most people we contacted with. THIRD CHOICE NOW is the demand of many people in America. If we manage to open this path, the next step will be proportional representation as it happen in Germany and other advanced democracies.

Fifth, the synergy that a single third choice will create among the US electorate will be a nice surprise. To take one example, among La raza people the abstentionism was getting big audience before you called for the expanded debates. This past week we explored tendencies and suggest the “what if” of a United Front emerges in the current context. The idea was received with great enthusiasm. We assume the same will happens across the nation.

Sixth,  is a United Front doesn’t emerge now, people will either fall into the trap of the lesser evil or fall in the frustrating abstention choice. You Amy and DN are the key to foster this alliance. If you do not take this initiative, nobody will take it. The chances for real democracy will be postponed once more. The dirty couple will continue coordinating policies in favor of big corporations, they will continue coordinating the exclusion and repression of a third choice candidate. 

Seventh, we should say enough is enough and launch the United Front now. This is exactly the right conjuncture to do it. You either will make great history in the US or your efforts –though well intentioned- will remain incomplete.
